Tasmanian Oak, is easily one of the most recognized timbers used in the flooring industry, even people with very little knowledge of timber are quickly able to identify a Tasmanian Oak floor when they see one.

With it's variegated, light brown colours making it quite a distinctive and beautiful timber choice for any style of home, from an Edwardian classic through to an ultra contemporary showcase.

Tasmanian Oak has it all.  It's tough, hard wearing and is suitable for every room in the home.

This timber is a pleasure to work with, as it sands beautifully and has no real problems with the coatings, easily taking all  sorts of different finishes, from high gloss to low-sheen matt.

What you may be surprised to learn, is that Tasmanian Oak is not a tree, or timber species in it's own right, and, is in fact, a mix of between 3  differing  Eucalypts, all with similar grain patterns and tonings Alpine Ash, Mountain Ash (Victorian Ash) and Messmate.

The images on this page are all of older Tasmanian Oak  floors that have been restored and as you can see they all sand & polish back to brand new, so no matter what condition your own floor is in at the moment, rest assured, that it can and will become a spectacular part of your home.

It's a pretty special feeling walking into a room with superbly finished Tassy Oak flooring, 'specially in bare feet.

If your building a new house, or adding an extension and haven't quite settled on what timber to lay, I'd strongly recommend that you give Tasmanian Oak some serious consideration. It's a great timber and when sanded and polished correctly will give you many years of outstanding service.
